Student Needs, Welfare and Safeguarding Policy
1. Student Needs
1A. Yorkshire Hypnotherapy Training is committed to supporting all students to access and successfully complete their training wherever reasonably possible.
1B We recognise that students may have differing needs, circumstances, or learning preferences, and we aim to provide appropriate support to enable fair access to our courses. Students are encouraged to inform us of any specific needs or requirements at the earliest opportunity so that suitable arrangements can be considered.
1C. For practitioner-level training, there is a dedicated section on the application form where you can outline any additional support needs. For home study or online courses, where this information is not collected at the point of enrolment, students are encouraged to contact Yorkshire Hypnotherapy Training directly by email to discuss any requirements.
1D. Reasonable adjustments may include, for example, flexibility in deadlines, alternative formats for learning materials where available, or additional guidance around assessments. All requests will be considered on an individual basis, taking into account the requirements of the course and any relevant accrediting body standards.
1E. While we will always aim to be supportive and flexible, students are also expected to engage with the course requirements and communicate openly if difficulties arise.
2. Student Welfare
2A. We are committed to maintaining a learning environment that is professional, respectful, and supportive for all students.
2B. For live and interactive elements of training (whether in-person or online), all participants are expected to behave in a manner that is respectful and considerate of others. Bullying, harassment, or inappropriate behaviour of any kind will not be tolerated. Where concerns arise, they should be raised with a tutor or course provider as soon as possible so that they can be addressed appropriately.
2C. We also recognise the importance of confidentiality within the learning environment, particularly where case discussions or personal reflections may be shared. Students are expected to maintain appropriate confidentiality at all times. Further details can be found in our GDPR and Data Protection Policy.
2D. Yorkshire Hypnotherapy Training is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We aim to provide a learning environment that is free from discrimination and where all individuals are treated with fairness and respect. Further information is available in our Equality and Diversity Policy.
2E. While this is a professional training course rather than a therapeutic service, we recognise that some course content, discussions, or client work may at times feel personally challenging. Students are encouraged to:
- Seek support from tutors where appropriate
- Make use of professional supervision where needed, particularly when working with clients
- Take breaks or adjust their pace of study if required
2F. Tutors are available to offer guidance and support in relation to course content and professional development. However, they do not provide personal therapy within the training context. Where appropriate, tutors may signpost students to external sources of support.
3. Safeguarding
3A. Although our courses are designed for adults, Yorkshire Hypnotherapy Training recognises its responsibility to promote a safe and supportive environment for all participants.
3B. Safeguarding, in this context, refers to the protection of individuals from harm, including emotional, psychological, or physical harm. This includes situations where a student may be vulnerable due to personal circumstances, or where concerns arise during the course of training or client work.
3C. If a student has concerns about their own wellbeing, or about the safety or wellbeing of another person, they are encouraged to raise this with a tutor or course provider as soon as possible. All concerns will be treated seriously and handled with appropriate sensitivity.
3D. Where a safeguarding concern is identified, Yorkshire Hypnotherapy Training may:
- Discuss the concern with the individual involved, where appropriate
- Encourage the student to seek appropriate external support
- Signpost to relevant services or organisations
- Take further action if there is a risk of serious harm, in line with legal and ethical responsibilities
3E. It is important to note that while confidentiality will be respected wherever possible, it may need to be breached if there is a risk of harm to the individual or others. In such cases, any action taken will be proportionate and in line with safeguarding principles.
3F. Students are also expected to practise safely and ethically when working with clients during their training. This includes recognising the limits of their competence, working within appropriate boundaries, and seeking supervision where needed.
