These are questions we are most often asked - if you want to know more, or to ask something that's not listed, please .
How do you assess your course (otherwise known as - are there exams)? What qualifications do I receive? What's all this about National Occupation Standards? Can other study be counted towards my hypnotherapy training? Other courses I've found take much less time, isn't that easier? It's a lot of money, will I be able to make it back? How should I choose a hypnotherapy training course? How do you assess your students (otherwise known as - are there exams)? No, there are no exams as such. Your tutor will monitor your practical skills in the classroom as you move through the course, other students and the people you practice with will give you feedback, and you will be asked to submit some written work as part of your independent study. There is a minimum attendance requirement. Assuming you are progressing satisfactorily in all these areas, you will pass the course. If you experience any difficulties, you will be given a chance to repeat or resubmit work in the affected areas. The Smoking Cessation Diploma is assessed via written work submitted to an external examiner.
What qualifications do I receive? When you pass the Foundation Course you will be awarded with the following: • The YHT Certificate of Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy When you pass the Practitioner Course you will be awarded with the following: • The YHT Diploma of Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy • The YHT Certificate of NLP skills In addition you will receive the externally awarded specialist qualification • The Diploma in Smoking Cessation Therapy from the College of Integrated Therapies If you choose to join the General Hypnotherapy Register after qualifying you will also receive their standardised professional award, the General Qualification in Hypnotherapy Practice (GQHP)
What's all this about National Occupation Standards? Many different industries and professions have their own National Occupational Standards (NOS). NOS are a set of rules that lay down what information you ought to know and what skills you ought to have if you are working in a particular job. They are developed by the government and senior figures within the relevant professions. There are currently four NOS that apply to hypnotherapists. Three cover all kinds of complementary therapy and one covers hypnotherapy specifically. A new core curriculum with learning outcomes mapped to the NOS now also applies to properly accredited hypnotherapy training. Our course is fully compliant with this. You'll find more information, along with the learning outcomes, on the GHR site at http://www.general-hypnotherapy-register.com/?s=learning+outcomes&submit=
Can other study be counted towards my hypnotherapy training? If you have already undertaken some accredited hypnotherapy training elsewhere and wish to transfer to us it may be possible to offset what you have already covered. Please contact us with full details of the course you took and we will let you know. Full details means
If the course is still being offered in the same format, a web link will be enough. If prior hypnotherapy training is offset, we will need to see certification or similar proof of your study, but you don't need to send them to us immediately.
Other courses I've found take less time, isn't that easier? Easier? Possibly. Better? Definitely not. Hypnotherapy as a profession is covered by a voluntary regulation agreement. And because the regulations are voluntary, it's possible to advertise as a hypnotherapist - or to offer hypnotherapy training - without following them. We think it's better not to. As a hypnotherapist you are working with people's emotional and psychological wellbeing. A weekend course and a book of hypnotherapy scripts does not mean you can do this safely, ethically, professionally or effectively. Even some 'intensive' courses which seem more thorough may not fully meet the regulations. If you studied over (for example) three months you would have to spend around 5 hours a day, seven days a week, for the whole of the three months to meet the current learning targets. We know that it's tempting. Once you've decided to become a hypnotherapist you want to get started as soon as possible. However, we believe you also want a therapy business that will grow, to become successful and to be able to help the people you work with. To do this you need to provide a top class, professional service. You need to be confident in using not just one 'off the shelf' approach but a variety of techniques and tools which you can confidently adapt to the needs of the person you are helping. And we feel that means investing both your time and your money in top class, professional training which allows you to study, practice and consolidate your learning over time. It's a lot of money, will I be able to make it back? We offer 20 full days of training, and our fees work out at less than £85 per day. They include telephone and email support for a year, assessments and entry into an externally assessed specialist diploma worth £125. We feel this is pretty good value for money. However, this is an investment in your future business and you'll obviously want to recoup that at some point. As with all self employment, your hypnotherapy practice will be what you make it, and no one can promise you a particular level of success. But have a look at this article on working as a hypnotherapist which offers some facts and figures about potential earnings and working in the complementary therapy industry.
How should I choose a hypnotherapy training course? Don't rush into the first / cheapest / nearest course you find. This training is going to form the bedrock of your new career and it's worth making sure you have the best one for you. Make a wish list and don't be afraid to ask questions. Look for the same information about each course you consider so you can compare them like for like. Here are some ideas to get you going.

Other considerations:
Because we're the best! Well, OK, we're biased. But we do feel our course is special. It is not only accredited by a variety of professional bodies and fully NOS compliant, it offers the added (unique) bonus of being able to advertise yourself as a specialist, with a qualification over and above a basic practitioner's diploma, from day one of your new career. Our curriculum is based on the practicalities of running a therapy business. It covers in depths the most common reasons people seek out hypnotherapists, and offers an introduction to many other more specialist areas. In other words, it teaches you what you need to know to be a successful professional therapist. We offer good support as you learn, with unlimited telephone and email contact available between classes, and one to one tutorials as required. In 2013 we were the first hypnotherapy training school in the UK to receive the British Institute of Hypnotherapy's time limited kite mark, and their report said our course "goes beyond the minimum standards outlined by UKCHO and the independent regulator CNHC". If you want to read their full appraisal please email us and ask for a copy.
